Russ Courtnall played 16 seasons in the NHL, appearing in over 1000 games. He’s best known for his days with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens but also suited up for Minnesota, Dallas, Vancouver, LA, and the New York Rangers. Russ was best known for his skating speed and offence, putting up an amazing 744 career points.
The former NHL first-rounder also dazzled on the international front. In 1984, he was Team Canada’s captain at the World Juniors and led the club that year with 13 points in 7 games. Later the same year, Russ followed that up with a Canadian Olympic appearance. And, in 1991, he was named to a star-packed Canadian squad that won the prestigious Canada Cup.
Today, with a sharp sense of humour that’s every bit as quick as his skating stride, Russ now captains The Suspendables. He shares a million classic NHL stories about the legends of the game along with his unique take on what’s happening in hockey today.
Jim Jerome is a Canadian broadcaster and comedian who’s been entertaining hockey fans for over 30 years. His wild sense of humour and “say anything” attitude quickly drew the attention of TSN radio where he enjoyed a long run, hosting one of the top-rated sports morning shows in the country. “Jungle” has hosted hundreds of events across North America including the Brier, the NHL’s annual outdoor game, and the Wayne Gretzky Fantasy Camp.
Jimmy is one of those naturally funny people and his list of friends in hockey seems endless. And that includes players from the Edmonton Oilers of the 1980’s, one of the greatest hockey teams of all time. As a young Molson rep in Edmonton, Jim hit it off with the Oilers straight away and still has strong friendships from that club that endure today. When Russ had the idea to do a podcast, Jim was his first call. They’ve been playfully chirping each other ever since.
