I started training BJJ 10 years ago and quickly started competing with a ton of success.
Why? Because I learned quickly that, to excel in BJJ, you need to do your homework. Yes, homework – meaning the work you do outside of the gym that will skyrocket your understanding of Jiu Jitsu and skills.
So, every day I would watch instructionals, read books, and think about Jiu Jitsu for hours. And yep, I’ve done all of this on top of training BJJ as much as I could.
The kids that excelled in school were the ones that did their homework. I didn’t do my homework in school because I had little passion for it. But in Jiu Jitsu, I understood the commitment which was necessary to become the excellent.
Fast forward to today, I’ve been running my own gym for 6 years and am constantly trying to improve my teaching ability and think about what really resonates with my students. My goal is to help them learn BJJ as quickly and deeply as possible.
